The Janus Property Company’s Vision Comes to Life with New Taystee Lab Building

The Janus Property Company’s vision for converting an aging manufacturing zone in West Harlem into a 21st century high tech, life sciences, arts and culture center came to a reality with the May 9th groundbreaking of the new Taystee Lab Building at 450 West 126th Street in Manhattan.

Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul and NYC Deputy Mayor Vicki Been led the dozens of elected and appointed officials and community leaders who hailed Janus partners Scott Metzner and Jerry Salama for their steadfastness and confidence in launching this important economic development project.

Former Community Board #9 Chair Rev. Georgette Morgan-Thomas kicked off the remarks by noting the cooperative process between community leaders and Janus in so many neighborhood initiatives including Taystee.  Deputy Mayor Been noted that this Lab building is projected to create 440 new permanent “jobs of tomorrow.”

Lt. Governor Hochul underscored the “ripple effect of this 350,000 sf project” as the anchor building in a multi-building campus that Janus is developing in the new Manhattanville Factory district in Upper Manhattan. Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer lauded Janus for their extensive and inclusive community involvement in this project.

Council Member Mark Levine expressed his pride at the progress of this building by a company that has dedicated itself to supporting many local non-profit groups.  State Senator Brian Benjamin noted that the Taystee Lab Building is a great example of how people and profit can work together for the benefit of the community.

The Taystee Lab Building is expected to be completed in the third quarter of next year.
