Governor Cuomo Announces New Initiatives for Minority and Women-Owned Businesses

Governor Cuomo recently announced the creation of two Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) focused initiatives: the creation of a Business Growth Accelerator and Certification Assistance Programs.

These two programs will expand on the State’s largely successful efforts to increase procurement with MWBEs by addressing two major hurdles for them: certification, and what to do once you are certified. The first program provides MWBEs with technical assistance and business development training, and the second will fund organizations that assist MWBEs with the certification process.

At Capalino, our MWBE Consulting Group works with MWBEs to navigate the certification process at the City and State levels, including appeals and renewals, as well as leverage that certification once an MWBE achieves it.

Tunisha WalkerBeyond certification, MWBEs need support with standing out in the market, and our team has expertise in helping MWBEs find and bid for government contracts, advising on marketing and business development strategies to help MWBEs connect with prime contractors and government, and finding events and opportunities for MWBEs to network with the City and State.

If you need help with MWBEs or are interested in pursuing business opportunities in New York, please contact Senior Vice President Tunisha W. Walker at tunisha@nullcapalino.com.
